Dina Summer is the Berlin-based collaborative band project between Kalipo and DJ couple Local Suicide, fronted by Dina. The Greek native, who lends her vocals and thought-provoking lyricism to the act, first started performing as a teenager on local radio stations, making waves as one of the first female DJs in Thessaloniki. She later moved to Berlin, meeting her husband and DJ/Producer partner Max to form Local Suicide. The third member of Dina Summer is Bavarian-born Jakob aka Kalipo, who started his music career as founding member of the legendary German electro- punk band Frittenbude.
The supergroup began working on music together in 2019 and have since been refining their combined sound. It is a unique blend of their influences, drawing from 80s italo disco, new wave, EBM and early 00s electro clash for a dark retro-futuristic synth/wave pop sound that is standing out with it’s clubby basslines, epic melody hooks and dada lyrics.
The trio first released their new wave disco hymn, ‘Who Am I’ on Iptamenos Discos which was praised by the global blogosphere and received massive support from press, radio & DJ’s such as The Hacker, Vitalic, Charlotte De Witte, Dubfire, Dixon, DJ Hell & Âme entering Beatport’s Top 10 Indie Dance charts, the Top 15 iTunes Electronic Charts and scoring numerous editorial playlists. Their follow-up debut album, ‘Rimini’, was released on Audiolith Records in 2022 and offered a nostalgic and beautifully crafted journey through retro disco sonics, incorporating dark disco, electro, and italo pop elements for versatile upbeat tracks that can be enjoyed beachside or on the dance floor. The LP earned raving reviews and features from Spiegel Online, Musikexpress, Kulturnews, DJ Mag, Mixmag, Groove, Sonic Seducer, Tsugi, Penthouse, Musikwoche, TIP, and FAZE, who declared the group as one of the most promising up-rising German electronic acts to watch in 2022 while amassing over 10k radio plays around the globe and over 2 mio streams.
Since then Dina Summer has been releasing various EP’s, singles and remixes while working on their highly anticipated second album ‘Girls Gang’ – which will be out January 24th, 2025 via Iptamenos Discos – and selling out concert halls & headlining festivals across Europe with their critically acclaimed live show.
