Features are this thing in hip-hop. Logical. Combined skills, pumped range. The politically correct band books a gangsta rapper. And the algorithm rotates faster than any rhyme will ever do. After a heavily hyped beef, the successful rapper invites her colleague to a track together. And from the fan base to the press, the internet is going crazy. A hip-hop album without foreign pens and followers is – so what? measuring? Revolutionary? “That’s neon fucking schwizzy / we feature ourselves,” explains the Hamburg crew Neonschwarz confidently in their single “Features”. Why look for other voices when four strong personalities have more than enough to say? – And it’s political, pointed and super nice, as Marie Curry, Johnny Mauser, Captain Gips and DJ Spion Y impressively show on their fourth album “Morgengrauen”, which will be released on February 25, 2022. At the end of the song “Features”, the Neonschwizzys simply send a few lines in the style of other MCs through the microphones with a brazen grin. Fake it until you make it. In this case, that means: “until Beyoncé finally says yes”.
