To escape the dreariness of small-town life in Celle, a few friends decided to found the band ALARMSIGNAL shortly after the turn of the millennium. The first songs were quickly written. The clubs they played in grew larger with each album, and they soon became welcome guests at bigger festivals. Their ninth studio album, “Insomnia,” has now been released.
The album title itself aptly describes the sleepless nights many of us are experiencing in these turbulent times. Singer and bassist Steff explains:
“On a political and social level, many things keep us awake at night: the stupidity, the ignorance, the selfishness, the hatred, and the backwardness of humanity. It’s 2025, and instead of learning from the past, Europe is drifting further and further to the right. Far-right rhetoric and hate speech are becoming increasingly acceptable—among politicians, in society, everywhere. Social media is full of racism, antisemitism, fake news, and appalling sexism and homophobia.”
Many of the songs on the new album are attempts to understand or express incomprehension of the increasingly complex world, to process both external events and internal contradictions and thoughts, and to bring a little order to the chaos that surrounds us all every day. Everything is changing, and the band is evolving as well: Chris (KOTZREIZ, JENNIFER ROSTOCK, BERLIN BLACKOUTS) is not only a featured guest on one track but, following a lineup change, is now the permanent drummer for the band – the album marks the beginning of a new chapter for ALARMSIGNAL in every respect. In addition to consistently positive reviews, the band entered the official German album charts at a sensational number 15, seamlessly continuing the success of their previous album, “Ästhetik des Widerstands” (number 20).
ALARMSIGNAL’s live performances also confirm their status as one of the most well-known and active German punk bands – with over 600 concerts played to date and recent sold-out shows at the legendary SO36 in Berlin and Leipzig’s Conne Island. Wherever ALARMSIGNAL appears, a euphoric atmosphere is guaranteed – we’re looking forward to the upcoming tour in spring, as well as sweaty mosh pits at festivals across Germany!
Press Reviews

“It’s hardly surprising, but ‘Insomnia’ is an incredibly powerful album. After all these years in the business, Alarmsignal are among the best for a reason. The songs hit hard, take no prisoners, and always hurt just enough to keep you from despairing, but also never forget that we will only win this fight for a better world together.” – ARTNOIR
“Insomnia repeatedly cements why Alarmsignal is an indispensable part of the German-language punk scene. Insomnia experiments without losing its identity. Insomnia is courageous, combative, and authentic.” – AWAY FROM LIFE
